Stephen John Hunter (born June 14, 1948) is an American guitarist, primarily a session player. He has worked with Lou Reed and Alice Cooper, acquiring the monniker "The Deacon". Hunter first played with Mitch Ryder's Detroit, beginning a long association with record producer Bob Ezrin who has said Steve Hunter has contributed so much to rock music in general that he truly deserves the designation of "Guitar Hero".

The guitarist Steve "The Deacon" Hunter -born 1948 in Decatur, Illinois (USA)- is best known for his collaborations with Lou Reed and Alice Cooper. He first played with Mitch Ryder's Detroit, beginning a long association with record producer Bob Ezrin. In the 1970s, he appeared on five Alice Cooper albums, four of which were produced by Ezrin. His first collaboration with Lou Reed was for the 'Berlin' album. He also played in the live band captured on Reed's live albums, the aforementioned 'Rock 'n' Roll Animal' and 'Lou Reed Live'. Reed and Hunter also worked recently on a new live version of 'Berlin'. I, like many I'm sure, remember Steve from the intro to 'Sweet Jane'.

On top of all that, he also has released 7 solo albums! . NEWS! Check out the single ‘Don’t Let The Children Cry’ from the new album by The Vargas Blues Band ‘King Of Latin Blues’.

The Deacon' was Steve Hunter's second solo album. It was released in 1989. Steve was living in Hollywood, CA and was finding it hard to get work. He had a week to write the rest of the album and always maintains that the pressure of having to come up with another nine or so tracks in such a short time, gave him the impetus to be very creative.
