Notes

A candid interview with Chilli & Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins about TLC's new album, 3D, Lisa "Left Ey" Lopes & more.

In loving memory of Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes (1971-2002)

TLC is the self-titled fifth studio album by American girl group TLC, released on June 30, 2017, by their newly formed label 852 Musiq. TLC partnered with various distribution companies: Sony Music RED (North America), Liberation Music (Australia), Warner Music Group (Japan), and Cooking Vinyl (the rest of the world). TLC is mainly a pop and R&B album with 1990s music influences. It is their first studio album in 15 years, since the 2002 release of 3D.

TLC – 3D. In light of the recent death of Left-Eye in a car crash, one can understand how difficult it must have been for the rest of TLC, the En Vogue with attitude, to finish this, their fourth album.

TLC released their 4th studio album 3D on November 12, 2002. The multi platinum album spawned the hit "Damaged" and the Grammy nominated singles "Hands Up" and "Girl Talk". TLC sign copies of their 3D album while they address HIV education as part of the kickoff of the 'Dialogues' series at Mount Sinai Medical Center June 3, 2003 in New York City.

Or consider a donation?

Released 12 November 2002. Since signing to LaFace in 1991 TLC have ridden the rock 'n' roll rollercoaster all the way. From their humble beginnings in Atlanta to the incredible breakthrough album that was CrazySexyCool there followed record company fall outs, rumours about break ups and bankruptcy. Not to mention their phenomenal record sales and countless MTV, Soul Train, Billboard and Grammy awards. Unfortunately, the incredible highs have been tempered with the most unbearable of lows. The loss of Lisa 'Lefteye' Lopes in a car accident earlier this year sent a shock wave through the music world,.

No member of TLC has an astounding voice, but their skills are exploited to the hilt, since the material not only suits them, it's melodic, memorable, and grows in stature with each play. Best of all, the production plays to the strength of the song, balancing the group's character and abilities with the hooks and character of the song. Perhaps 3D doesn't blaze trails like their other albums, but it never plays it safe and it always satisfies, and it's one of the best modern soul albums of 2002
