Elder’s fourth full-length album. Long, undulating and dense tracks float between psychedelic passages and progressive rock without missing a beat; adventurous and unpredictable songs are punctuated by hypnotic jams, all colored by the tendency toward melody and dynamism that has become the band’s hallmark.

We tend to think of Conan The Barbarian as a big, dumb fucker with a sword. But Conan was something else, too. Robert E. Howard, the great pulp writer, was probably the closest thing to a peer that . Lovecraft ever had. Howard dreamed up Conan when he was 28, two years before he committed suicide. As conceived by Howard, Conan was a kind of mystical warrior-king, a brutal death-dealer wandering the world in some mysterious prehistorical age, fighting gods and only caring for his own survival.

Reflections of a Floating World carries with it the same affinity for vast, endlessly unfolding compositions as its predecessor. Instrumental Sonntag is the sole sub-nine-minute track of the bunch, and as such doesn’t leave quite the same impact as the other five. But those other five: Wow. For a band that never seems to stop finding new paths to explore, Reflections feels even more atmospheric and psychedelic than those that came before it, revealing a more refined sense of ambience and lush beauty among their new set of compositions. You can get lost in these tracks or simply sit back and follow where each track goes. Reflections of a Floating World is the kind of album that isn’t meant to be experienced the same way twice. It might not even be possible. Similar Albums: Pallbearer – Heartless Baroness – Purple Dungen – Ta Det Lugnt. May 30, 2017Jeff Terich.

Reflections Of A Floating World is a music studio album recording by ELDER (Heavy Prog/Progressive Rock) released in 2017 on cd, lp, vinyl and/or cassette. DiSalvo mentioned in an interview that the title of this album comes from a Japanese term "The Floating World" which refers to a particular period in Japanese history where the arts were flourishing but also there was a self-destructive decadent lifestyle. It seemed appropriate to DiSalvo to name this album as such considering the times we live in in 2017.

Every so often, an album comes out of nowhere and truck sticks you into next Tuesday. Elder’s 2015 opus Lore did that for me. Their complex brand of New England stoner metal featured the right amount of proggy psych stylings to land in my personal Top Te. Lore has been a constant friend these last two years, and I expected that topping it would be tough, given its lofty heights and incredible riffcraft. Leave it to Reflections of a Floating World to prove me so incredibly wrong. Relative stagnation held Lore back, resulting in an album a tad too long for its own good
