|A||Tannhauser (Wagner) - Dich! Teure Halle|
Tannhäuser, is an 1845 opera in three acts, music and text by Richard Wagner, (WWV 70 in the catalogue of the composer's works) based on two German legends: Tannhäuser, the legendary medieval German Minnesänger and poet, and the tale of the Wartburg Song Contest. The story centers on the struggle between sacred and profane love, and redemption through love, a theme running through much of Wagner's mature work.
The great German dramatic soprano Johanna Gadski (1872-1932), one of the outstanding figures in the so-called "Golden Age of Opera", in Elisabeth's greeting to the Hall of Song from Act 2 of Wagner's Tannhäuser, recorded on 11 November 1903 for the Victor Talking Machine & C. .de/Sopranos/Gadski Johanna/gadski johanna.

Johanna Emilia Agnes Gadski (15 June 1872 – 22 February 1932) was a German soprano. She was blessed with a secure, powerful, ringing voice, fine musicianship and an excellent technique. These attributes enabled her to enjoy a top-flight career in New York City and London, performing heavy dramatic roles in the German and Italian repertoires. She was constantly developing as a singer of Wagner rôles, notably Brunhilde and Isolde. Her repertoire included forty rôles in all, and the demand for her appearance at festivals here and abroad became more and more insistent. 2Dich teure Halle Popularity: Opera: TannhäuserComposer: WagnerAct: . 1.
