Looking forward to hearing and supporting their debut album coming out on UNFD. Odysseas This is such a solid album, hard-hitting and emotional. Adelaide delivers once again.
Driven by a pulsing kick, Growing’s palette of fuzz shards, goopy gurgles, and vacuum suction is transformed from whispers in the ether to block-rocking beats from a Martian club. As well as becoming more danceable (in a freaky, frenetic way), the band incorporates a vocalist, Sadie Laska, who delivers spoken echoes in the styling of Miss Kittin over Camera 84 ’s techno pacing.
The Pains of Growing, her upcoming sophomore album, explores the nuance and mentality of what it’s like to age out of your teen years. In honor of the release of Growing Pains, Cara spoke with Billboard about what her new project means to her and what listeners can anticipate from her second album. What was going through your head while recording Growing Pains and what did you want to accomplish with it?
Growing have been at their best when they've been most immersive, when they let the listener slip into their atmosphere of ideas. And that- not this newly pronounced dependence on rhythms and vocals- is why PUMPS! is so underwhelming. Growing's approach is undeveloped here, as the trio never seems to know for what exactly what it's aiming. On "Massive Dropout", they stunt an interesting, textural beat with unnecessary electronic interference.
