Madonna recorded the album in New York City with Shep Pettibone and André Betts while she was working on her book and film projects. She began creating the album's demos with Pettibone in his apartment in October 1991, and wrote the melodies and lyrics on top of the basic music which Pettibone produced in the style of his remixes. Having started his career as a remixer, Pettibone built the basic music of the Erotica songs in the style of his remixes for which Madonna wrote the melodies and lyrics. According to Pettibone in an article "Erotica Diaries" published on Madonna's Icon magazine, he began with a tape of three tracks for Madonna to listen to, before he traveled to Chicago
Erotica" shows off Madonna's naughty side. The whole album really puts you in the mood and it is very SEXY. Although often overlooked, "Erotica" truly has some of Madonna's best music. 5. Is Erotica the best album by Madonna? BestEverAlbums. com brings together thousands of 'greatest ever album' charts and calculates an overall ranking. One of the best Madonna albums out there, full of different styles of dance & pop music it is a tad overlong the track Did You Do It as far as I can tell doesn't feature Madonna at all. The remainder of the album however more than makes up for it. Erotica, Deeper & Deeper, Where Life Begins, Rain, In This Life & Bad Girl being the standout tracks.
