I let love in I let love in. So if you're sitting all alone and hear a-knocking at your door And the air is full of promises, well buddy, you've been warned Far worse to be Love's lover than the lover that Love has scorned. I let love in I let love in Yeah, I let love in I let him in I let love in, yeah I let love in I let him in I let love in. More on Genius. It may refer to the specific stage of Nick Cave’s life which culminated in divorce in 1996 (the album was released two years prior). There is everything: promising beginnings, gradual submission to the feeling, raising awareness of the dark side of the love including fear, cheating, constant doubts and the lack of self-confidence (all of it being far worse than the worst forms of physical torture) and the hopeless call for help. Finally, there is a sigh stating that the warning was issued but it’s up to you if you would pay attention.

Compared to Henry's Dream, Let Love In is something of a more produced effort - longtime Cave boardsman Tony Cohen oversees things, and from the first track, one can hear the subtle arrangements and carefully constructed performances. Love, unsurprisingly, takes center stage of the album. The highlight of the album, though, has little to do with love and everything to do with the group's abilities at music noir. Red Right Hand" depicts a nightmarish figure emerging on "the edge of town," maybe a criminal and maybe something more demonic.
The next single on the album, Loverman, which has been covered by Metallica, and Depeche Mode’s Martin Gore, was almost scrapped during the recording process. Cave explains: Loverman was a song we almost didn’t do because it seemed like a very weak idea at the time of recording. It was supposed to be just a throwaway song about desire. The final single off of Let Love In, instead of being the title track, Red Right Hand is the one of the band’s most well known and most consistently performed songs, second only to The Mercy Seat. Taking it’s name from a line in Paradise Lost referring to the wrathful hand of God, Red Right Hand has been licensed to the soundtracks of many films and televisions shows, and is currently being used as the title track for the period crime drama Peaky Blinders.
