Wheels of Steel is the second studio album by the English heavy metal band Saxon. It was released in 1980 and reached Platinum status in the UK. "747 (Strangers in the Night)" is about a power cut that forced planes in New York to remain in ascent in 1965 with the power outage provoking a Scandinavian flight to detour to Kennedy airport in the dark.

After finding themselves a qualified heavy metal producer in Pete Hinton, the members of Saxon recovered from their disappointing debut in fine form with 1980's career-defining Wheels of Steel. As well as effectively setting the template for the band's most successful efforts, the album's songs positively gleamed with a bright, metallic sheen similar to that exhibited by the chrome eagle hoisting a motorcycle wheel on its iconic cover

Wheels of Steel Lyrics. When my foot's on the throttle, there's no looking back I leave my motor tickin' over when she's parked on the track I've got a '68 Chevy with pipes on the side You know she's my idea of beauty and that's what I drive. She's got wheels Wheels of steel She's got Wheels of steel Wheels of steel Talkin' 'bout my wheels of steel

Wheels of Steel was Saxon's second full length album, and is seen as one of the band's strongest efforts. Like many of their NWOBHM counterparts, Saxon's efforts on Wheels of Steel are raw, fist pumping offerings. Energy is the name of Saxon's game, and they make use of this valuable asset quite well.
