The second running piece ‘’ (1983) comes from one of the final Kosmischer Läufer sessions where Zeichnete used a drummer and bass player in the studio. This third collection of Martin Zeichnete's secret work for the DDR's athletic elite comes in two parts. First, a running program (Tracks 1-3) at 164BPM finds Zeichnete at his most hypnotic, particularly on the motorik, rolling 'Jenseits des Horizonts'. This set ends with the elegiac 'Für Seelenbinder', a song dedicated to Olympic wrestler and communist hero Werner Seelenbinder. Particularly exciting is the second part (Tracks 4 - 10), a soundtrack to a lost animated film UCR obtained only a few months ago.

The story of Kosmischer Läufer is one of the most wonderfully apocryphal tales in the current music world. According to Unknown Capability Recordings, the tracks compiled on this and the previous two volumes they've released so far were created by musician Martin Zeichnete as part of a training soundtrack for East Germany's Olympic athletes. Again, a great concept made even better by the evocative track titles ( In the city and in the countryside, The Girl’s Dream, Arrival at the Stadium/The race ), even when the music sometimes feels like it’s straining to keep within the tone of the times.

The magical and enchanting Kosmischer Läufer: The Secret Cosmic Music of the East German Olympic Program 1972 – 83 Volume III is possibly the best album I’ve heard all year (move over, Let’s Eat Grandma; I had thought you had the top spot aced until I heard this). This triumphant, all-instrumental collection of (mostly) synthetic baubles, bubbles, hums, whistles, and moonscapes may also be one of the 10 best Krautrock albums ever released. It’s so good that it’s largely irrelevant that it’s the fruit of a well-executed hoax
