Album The Best Of Jon & Vangelis. The Friends of Mr Cairo Lyrics. Sam Space his buddy Archer first to go he got it (He dead) She spelt it out, how could they know the "Fatman" got it (He dead) Her sister didn't really live at all-confusion (He dead) His chase led to the "Fatman", to face the friends of Mr. Cairo.
In 1980, Jon left Yes and while he published his third solo album Song of Seven in 1980, Vangelis did the same with See You Later on which Jon sang two songs. The two reunited to record their second album as a duo Friends of Mr Cairo in 1981, producing the hit songs "Friends of Mr Cairo", "State of Independence" and "Back to School". In 1983, Jon Anderson got back with Yes and they published their album 90125, and so did Jon & Vangelis with their own album Private Collection the same year
Both versions were released in 1981 within a few weeks of each other. The title track, "The Friends of Mr Cairo", peaked at No. 1 on the Canadian singles chart in late 1981, though this track was not a hit elsewhere.
The second album-length collaboration between Jon Anderson and Vangelis is almost perfect in its blending of elements; it's only when the pair tries to do some serious rocking on "Back to School" that things take a bit of a nosedive. Other than that, though, there are some classic cuts to be found on this record, including the breathtaking "I'll Find My Way Home," "State of Independence" (which became a popular tune to cover), and the brilliantly optimistic "Mayflower," which catapults the listener into a star-traveling future.
