Virgo Blaktro and the Movie Disco. Virgo Blaktro and the Movie Disco is an album by Felix da Housecat, his first studio album since Devin Dazzle & the Neon Fever in 2004. It was released on October 2, 2007 on Nettwerk Records. The album spans several musical genres including electronic, house music, funk, soul and pop. It was recorded in Barcelona and Antwerp and like Devin Dazzle it is a concept album; this one is centered on the revival of 1970s and 1980s black music.

Virgo Blaktro is, at least presumably, a record centered around a revival of the more melodic, song-crafting aspect of dance music, with a focus on black artistry present in the late 1970s and early 80s; Felix claimed in the Nettwerk PR material that he wanted to aim for Prince and P-Funk, with touches of ack. versions of George Michael and the Pet Shop Boys. Virgo Blaktro & the Movie Disco at once represents a back-to-basics move and a firm step forward. Felix da Housecat's previous album, Devin Dazzle & the Neon Fever, was nearly overstuffed with guest appearances and interlopers, as if Felix had actually followed through on each "Hey, we should do something in the studio" yelped during his globetrotting DJ gigs and VIP party-hopping

Many of the tracks here are compacted and quite short, giving Virgo Blacktro the quick, skippy feeling of a neatly-selected mixtape rather than an artist album that rather outstays its welcome. There is space for one epic, though, in the shape of Tweak, a five-minute disco stomp that builds to a thumping climax, like Josh Wink’s Higher State Of Consciousness recreated on the disco floor with a synth that squeaks like a deflating balloon. Going on this, one suspects the name Virgo Blacktro is one you’ll hear again, and again.
That’s good, then, because for his first album in three years, Virgo Blaktro & The Movie Disco, Felix is all about the pop song nowadays: "I leave it up to Digitalism, Justice, and Boys Noize to make the noise, 'cos I've done that. Now I'm more into making songs, telling stories and good melodies - sorta like how Prince wa. In his current bio, he even adds: "This is the first record I've done with black folks, but to me it's not a color thing, it's more like a roots thing . Felix da Housecat’s 2001 album, Kittenz and thee Glitz, turned the dance music world on its side as his collaborations with the now infamous Miss Kittin on Silver Screen and Madame Hollywood and Melistar on Harlot and What Does it Feel Like sp. .View the full artist profile.
