Poi Dog Pondering was always a band better appreciated in a live context, its albums never quite capturing the excitement of the group's rock/folk/pop/world music stew. The reason is simple: like other fun jam bands such as Phish, Aquarium Rescue Unit and the like, Poi Dog never really mastered the art of writing concise, radio-friendly songs, preferring to let their tight grooves and polyrhythmic percussion beds carry the music. In fact, the best "songs" on the album are not really songs at all, but new-agey instrumental pieces ("Endtrance" and "Entrance"). That said, there is certainly enough variety throughout to keep one's attention, from the New Orleans-style soul of "Be the One" to the stadium rock guitar wall of "Blood and Thunder.
I've Got My Body Lyrics. I've got my body I've got my soul I have so much to learn now this I know I might have eyes I might have fingers and toes But tell me what good are all those things If you ain't got your soul I've got my body I've got my soul Someday I might have a million dollars. Exclusive Prime pricing. Poi Dog Pondering started in Hawaii where they released two EP's that were combined for the group's first major release. They moved to Austin where they did two more CD's, broke up, and reformed in Chicago with mostly different musicians and a slightly different sound. For the first 3 CD's Poi Dog Pondering had an accoustic, folk, world music sound, very similar to Rusted Root. At the peak, there were 10 members in the band, with instruments include violin, sax and all kinds of percussion. Like many such bands, they stretched out more live than on the studio CD's.
