The Balfa Brothers (or Les Frères Balfa) were an American cajun music ensemble. Its members were five brothers; Dewey on fiddle, Will on fiddle, Rodney on guitar, harmonica, and vocals, Burkeman on triangle and spoons, and Harry on Cajun accordion. The brothers first played together at family gatherings in the 1940s.

Tracy Schwarz is one of the greatest traditional fiddlers in America. Born in New York City but raised in New England and New Jersey, Schwarz first came to love country music from radio broadcasts of the late '40s. Subsequently, he appeared on two Smithsonian Folkways albums with Balfa, including 1976's Traditional Cajun Fiddle: Instruction by Tracy Schwarz and Dewey Balfa and 1977's Cajun Fiddle Old New with Dewey Balfa. Since 1989, Schwarz and his wife musician Ginny Hawker have continued to perform, teach, and explore new areas of traditional music. Dewey Balfa (March 20, 1927 – June 17, 1992) was an American Cajun fiddler and singer who contributed significantly to the popularity of Cajun music. Balfa was born near Mamou, Louisiana. He is perhaps best known for his 1964 performance at the Newport Folk Festival with Gladius Thibodeaux and Vinus LeJeune, where the group received an enthusiastic response from over seventeen thousand audience members
