The trio will perform Beeferman’s new concert-length set of five pieces that traverse and investigate unusual moods, forms, rhythms, and sound-worlds. Composer/librettist team Gordon Beeferman and Charlotte Jackson bring wit and polymorphous perversity to this journey through the Magical Kingdom of Porn, a place where past and present, straight and queer, and dead and living converge. Gordon Beeferman’s IMAGINARY BAND is a (real) 7-piece group that explores the territory where classical ‘new-music,’ jazz and free improvisation intersect.

GORDON BEEFERMAN – Other Life Forms. Different Track Gordon Beeferman is an undogmatic composer endowed with fairly stinging humor. I formed this band in 2010, and some of you have seen us play around NYC, as I gradually created a body of pieces that gathered my evolving thoughts on composition and improvisation, jazz, free jazz, playing the piano and organ, and ensemble dynamics. I couldn't ask for a better band: adventurous, open-minded, versatile, and fun as hell - Stephanie Griffin (viola), Pascal Niggenkemper (bass), Andrew Drury (drums).

New York-based pianist, composer Gordon Beeferman is also a 2016 New York Foundation for the Arts Fellow, in addition to his multifarious career spanning several music genres and extensive collaborations with a diverse array of artists and bands. On this outing he leads a quartet, featuring a notable cast of like-minded futurists. Beeferman is armed with a distinct compositional style and is perhaps an under-recognized leader amid the 'new' music vibe, where progressive jazz is fused with classical, bop, swing and avant-garde offshoots
