I'll Be Sweeter Tomorrow (Than I Was Today)" (also known as "I'll Be Sweeter Tomorrow") is a 1967 hit single by the O'Jays, the group's best-selling single on Bell Records. It reached No. 66 on the Billboard Hot 100 pop chart in 1967.

Although The O’Jays Philly International recordings are always touted as some of their best work, we love this early material produced by George Kerr – with a sound that’s very similar to classic New Jersey groups like The Moments and The Whatnauts (and which also features a few songs that were covered by those groups, too). On the R&B charts, The O'Jays were somewhat more prominent, but their only top 10 R&B single prior to 1972 was 1968's "I'll Be Sweeter Tomorrow". In spite of their success as a touring group and on the R&B charts, the group had been considering quitting the music industry in 1972; around that same time original members Bill Isles and Bobby Massey departed, leaving the group a trio. Ship Ahoy is a rhythm and blues album by Philadelphia soul group The O'Jays, released on November 10, 1973 on Philadelphia International Records. The album was a critical and commercial success, reaching on Billboard's "Black Albums" chart and on the "Pop Albums" chart and launching two hit singles, "For the Love of Money" and "Put Your Hands Together.

So it’s no surprise that on The Last Word, The O’Jays’ first studio album in 15 years and what the band has announced will be their FINAL album, emotes the same hunger and vocal craftsmanship as the 2005 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee’s greatest ‘70s and ‘80s works. The 9-track S-Curve/BMG release, due out April 19, finds the Grammy-nominated act in fine form. And The O’Jays still find time for romance on the beautiful I’ll Be Sweeter Tomorrow, a stripped down, intimate reimagining of the group’s first top 10 R&B hit from 1967. The O’Jays were also groundbreaking change-agents becoming the first black R&B touring act to headline arenas setting the bar for other African-American talent to follow. But along The O’Jays’ triumphant ride there has been struggle and heartbreak.
