Carl Stone did not have this problem. Though he came up through academia, his circuitous route to composition was born in the early-1970s via a student job archiving Cal Arts’ LP library to cassette. Banteay Srey slices and bends unknown source material into a breathy whalesong, wrapping it around a simple bass harmony. The music’s slow-motion dawn echoes the g sampledelia of Boards of Canada, but oversells itself.
Carl Stone (born February 10, 1953) is an American composer, primarily working in the field of live electronic music. He studied composition at the California Institute of the Arts with Morton Subotnick and James Tenney and has composed electro-acoustic music since 1972. He is a faculty member in the Department of Information Media at Chukyo University in Japan but also lives and works in San Francisco.
Pieces of Eight is the eighth studio album by Styx, released on September 1, 1978. Like the band's previous album, The Grand Illusion (1977), it managed to achieve triple platinum certification, thanks to the hit singles "Blue Collar Man (Long Nights)" and "Renegade". The band members produced and recorded the album (like their previous three efforts) at Paragon Studios in Chicago with recording engineer Barry Mraz and mixing engineer Rob Kingsland.
