is the debut album by American music producer DJ Shadow, released on September 16, 1996 by Mo' Wax. It is composed almost entirely of samples, mostly from vinyl records, and features moody, slow tracks and upbeat jams reminiscent of Shadow's early hip hop influences. Shadow produced Endtroducing over two years using minimal equipment, particularly an MPC60 sampler.

Earlier this week, DJ Shadow announced a remix album of his 1996 debut Endtroducing. featuring contributions from artists including Clams Casino and Hudson Mohawke. reissue package called Endtrospective. Tracklist: DJ Shadow - Best Foot Forward (Teeko Remix). DJ Shadow - Building Steam With A Grain Of Salt (Salva Remix). DJ Shadow - The Number Song (Lee Bannon Remix). But Shadow can't avoid the irony that this is a revival of an album that revives other albums. We could be hearing this music, not for the second time around, but for the third and maybe the fourth. In the documentary Scratch, Shadow takes us to the record store where he found most of the vinyl used on Endtroducing. Upstairs we see the regular shelves and bins, but downstairs, in the basement, are tens of thousands of old albums stacked or dumped all over the room, barely lit by a few light bulbs and littered with dust and dead bats.

DJ Shadow : Endtroducin. abel: MoWax-London. DJ Shadow is neither anarchist nor hedonist. On the one hand, his approach to sampling is most certainly a liberal one, and on his magnum opus Endtroducin. there are literally hundreds of samples, looped over one another, with little random bits of sound in-between the melodic combinations. Yet unlike Girl Talk or Jason Forrest, there is no erratic barrage of breaks and minimal Top 40 rips, but rather carefully structured sonic strata, building new creations which ultimately come to be brand new songs, with their own melodies and identities, built entirely out of other songs.
