Jeff Black is, I would say, pure midwest, if there ever was one. Hes building heavily on Mellencamp and the "old Steve Earle" in an individual way but hes also picked up the sound of younger guys like Paul Thorn, Matthew Ryan and my fave, Joe Henry. You also hear traces of Danny Tate and Michael McDermott in the tracks like "Thats just about right". Most of the tracks are great if not fantastic.
