Black Cherry is the second studio album by English electronic music duo Goldfrapp, released on 23 April 2003 by Mute Records.

Black cherry, black cherry Stone Black cherry, black cherry. Hearing you say it, I could die Trembling star just reminds me. All the world in one grain of sand And I've blown it All my world in one grain of sand And you own it. Black cherry, black cherry Stone Black cherry, black cherry. Excite me, ignite me Oh and you know I miss you, I kiss you Oh and you know. Black Cherry is an electronic ballad about lost love. Black Cherry was written probably torwards the end of that album and it’s a slight kind of turn back in that direction in that it has this epic kind of quality to it.

Black Cherry is an unapologetic and elegant heterodox album of songs which deems Goldfrapp and Gregory as a new provocative tour de force in the evolution of intelligent music. Responder Ver 1 respuesta Notifícame 3 Helpful. A good modern electronic pop record the way it is supposed to be - dynamic, catchy and sometimes irritatingly repetitive, still each song lasts for merely three-four minutes so the doses are kept small and on the right level.

Perhaps Goldfrapp herself was dissatisfied with its shortcomings. Train, the first single to be taken from her second album Black Cherry, indicates a major sonic overhaul. The soundtracky string arrangements and trip-hop rhythms have been replaced by something considerably darker and more interesting. Its beat sounds like an electronic variant on a glam rock stomp: David Bowie's Jean Genie fed through machines until it attains a whip-crack precision.

And the inevitable segue: I wish I could say the same about Goldfrapp or their new album, Black Cherry. The bestial spookiness is there- disturbing woman-dog hybrids are all over the booklet, and "Wolf Lady sucks my brain" is actually a prominent lyric of the first single- but that's it. This platter of overproduced come-hither electropop is a polyester successor to the band's silky 2000 debut Felt Mountain. In fact, that's where copies of this album will inevitably spin, a soundtrack to excruciatingly banal seduction. The songs themselves, though hard to see through all this velvet fog, are a grab bag of trendy tactics. The first single "Train" is an ancient shuffle, rendered in quantized beats and fuzzy synths.

Goldfrapp - Black Cherry Goldfrapp’s Alison Goldfrapp and Will Gregory took no time making a name for themselves in the year 2000 with their debut release entitled, Felt Mountain. The record was nominated for the Mercury Prize and quickly established the duo as artists who combined electro and trip hop with extremely addictive pop sensibility. By the time the album’s title track kicks in I’m seriously wondering if it’s still 2003, or if I’ve time warped back in time to the year 1982. There is also the undeniable inspiration of such trip hop acts as Portishead and Massive Attack floating in both the musical productions as well as Alison’s vocal styles throughout Black Cherry. This is most evident on Deep Honey, with the Portishead-esque crooning over ominous orchestral layers.
