Black Gold is a live album by American jazz musician Nina Simone recorded in 1969 at the Philharmonic Hall, New York City. She got a 1971 nomination for a Grammy Award for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance, but lost to Aretha Franklin. The album is especially notable because it features the civil rights anthem song "To Be Young, Gifted and Black".

Nina was giving piano recitals after playing at her local church at an early age. Her childhood piano lessons were funded by her mother's employer and a local fund set up by her music teacher, so impressed were they by her talent. It was infused with gospel, blues, soul, jazz, R&B, and folk.

Nina Simone was one of the best jazz artists of all time, a truly distinctive female jazz vocalist who was not afraid to say what was on her mind.

Nina Simone – born Eunice Kathleen Waymon – was a child prodigy, and a fund had been set up by people in her native Tryon, North Carolina to help her become the first female black concert pianist in the U. Simone might have resented being called a jazz musician but it’s hard to deny the big-band oomph of Feeling Good, possibly her best-loved song.

Simone Contends that 'nina Simone and Piano' is her Best Record Album Description Two of the legendary jazz vocalist's original RCA Victor LPs together on one CD, 1970's 'Nina Simone & Piano' and 1967's 'Silk & Soul'. Also features the original cover art of each record, plus three bonus tracks, 'Whatever I Am (You Made Me)', 'Why Must Your Love Well Be So Dry?' and 'Save Me'. 23 tracks total. Two Classics from the Jazz Goddess from 1967-69.

Nina Simone’s place in classic rock and classic soul canon is sometimes unjustly relegated to two songs from this album: her symphony-backed cover of I Put a Spell on You and Feeling Good, the song of hers that’s been streamed more than any other. Nina’s career is too unwieldy and too varied to be reduced to a single album, or a single song, which is why it’s so hard for people to dive into her discography. You don’t know where to start.
