El Chicano, originally formed by Freddie Sanchez under the name The VIP's arose during a period of increasing Chicano consciousness in America. Their initial hit, "Viva Tirado", was a jazzy soul rock rendition of Gerald Wilson's original song about a bullfighter. The song did very well on Los Angeles radio and remained for thirteen straight weeks. Other notable tracks recorded by El Chicano are the funky "Tell Her She's Lovely" as well as a cover of Van Morrison's 1967 hit, "Brown Eyed Girl". On their 1970 album, Viva Tirado the group covered Herbie Hancock's jazz standard "Cantaloupe Island". The song was one of nine on the album, which included the hit single "Viva Tirado" that went gold. El Chicano continues to be active with a combination of original and new members. Tuesday, 16 December 2008. El Chicano - The Best Of Everything. EL CHICANO The Best Of Everything 1975 256+ VBR LAME mp3 Vinyl rip & scans from MCA-437. This is the second-to-last album EL Chicano recorded for MCA and, despite the name, it's not a compilation of hits. Their version of the hippie anthem "Love The One You're With" is passable while the title track sounds more like the Doobie Brothers than was probably intended. One More Night (Audi)" ain't a bad pop song although it's pretty standard mid-70s AM fare, which could be said for most of the tracks.

I love the stuff my mom used to be into in high school, she recently told Vogue. I love the dramatic cholita eye makeup that my tías and mom used to wear. I find comfort when people feel nostalgic when they see my outfit. Across the Southwest and especially in . retro references have long been a vital element of Latina style. But throwback looks are not merely data points in fashion’s larger recycling of eras, cuts, and proportions. The Chicano style vernacular begins with the pachuco subculture of the 1930s and 1940s, said De Luna, the tapered trousers and pompadours of the zoot-suit era: This is the inception of our identity. Not coincidentally, during this period there was also overt persecution of Mexican-Americans in . who were targeted in the series of racist attacks known as the Zoot Suit Riots.
