Mod Jazz from Blue Note: A Compilation for Cool Struttin'. Gene Ammons, Dexter Gordon.

Mod Jazz from Blue Note: A Compilation for Cool Struttin'. Art Blakey & the Jazz Messengers.

The collection is drawn primarily from the catalogue of East Coast label Prestige, with added tracks from the Riverside, Battle, Galaxy and Fantasy imprints. Not surprisingly, having had first dibs on those great sources, the music is of the highest quality and has not only stood the test of time but has added followers over the years, many of whom were too young to dig those crazy beats first time around

Audio CD, Import, October 26, 1991. The personnel featured on the various cuts are a who's who of jazz, sidemen who became frontmen, all playing straight ahead jazz at their improvisational best. 10 people found this helpful. Each of these songs represents an awesome album (well all except Watermelon Man). Lets hope that those just begining to explore jazz will use this as a primer. Blue Note would appreciate the business.
