Released in the wake of the commercial success of his comeback, Que Pasa, Latino America is a double-disc that combines Gato Barbieri's first two albums for a major label. Both records were recorded in the early '70s, largely in Brazil and Argentina, and they have been remastered by Ed Michel, the original producer of these sessions. In addition to all of the material from the two albums - including four tracks that have been restored to thier full extended length - Latino America contains five previously unreleased tracks

In the 1970s, Argentine-born saxophonist Leandro "Gato" Barbieri came to fame for his soundtrack of Bernardo Bertolucci's Last Tango in Paris-but his most important work of that period was a daring series of recordings for Impulse. On them, Barbieri travelled to places such as Buenos Aires, Argentina and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and recorded with local musicians, combining his fiery post-Coltrane sensibility and Latin American rhythms and styles, often played on indigenous instruments.

Bolivia is a live album by Argentinian jazz composer and saxophonist Gato Barbieri featuring performances recorded in New York in 1973 and first released on the Flying Dutchman label. In Creem magazine, Robert Christgau gave Bolivia an "A-" and said he liked it slightly better than Barbieri's other 1973 album Chapter One: Latin America "because I prefer Lonnie Liston Smith and Barbieri's other Afro-American sidemen to his less disciplined all-South American band
