Nelson Smock Riddle Jr. (June 1, 1921 – October 6, 1985) was an American arranger, composer, bandleader and orchestrator whose career stretched from the late 1940s to the mid-1980s. He found commercial and critical success again in the 1980s with a trio of Platinum albums with Linda Ronstadt
A few songs are penned by Riddle himself. The general feel throughout is upbeat. I've listened several times and lamented the discs' conclusion. Riddles orchestral canvas of just the right instrumentation is sensational. After a steller career of coloborations with some of the greatest vocalists of the 20th Century(longest with Sinatra), Nelson Riddle was invited to cut a couple of albums for MPS, in Vegas, in 1971. The easy listening orchestras and conductors were begining to be replaced by Soft Rock. The 20 selections on this disc are the result of the combined("Communication" and "Changing Colors")albums. The orchestrations and sound quality are first rate.
Nelson Riddle & His Orchestra I Want To Hold Your Hand.
As is virtually always the case with Nelson Riddle, this CD shines with his artistry and his wonderful swinging orchestra. Included are some songs I had not heard by Riddle. A nicely rounded selection of same, a few with latin & bossa nova flavor, several pop hits (My Sweet Lord, Close To You, Just a Little Lovin', My One and Only Love, When The World Was Young, among others). Then there is a smattering of Riddle-composed instrumentals and samples of compositions by his German big band friends: Claus Ogerman, Horst Jankowski, and F. Grothe, all played by the Riddle orchestra
