The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion is the second studio album by American rock band The Black Crowes, released on May 12, 1992. It was the first record by the band to feature Marc Ford on lead guitar, replacing Jeff Cease, who was fired the year before, and the first record to feature keyboardist Eddie Harsch. The album's name derives from the full name of the Southern Harmony, an influential 1835 hymnal compiled by William Walker.
While there aren't as many obvious singles as on their debut album, The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion is the best expression of the Crowes' ability to take a classic, tried-and-true sound and make it their own. Track Listing.
After opening with two brand new six-minute songs, they play the hits Hard To Handle and Twice As Hard but then they’re straight back into more unfamiliar material. This is the kind of thing that has driven their handlers crazy over the past year. The new album was named after a post-Civil War southern hymnal, The Southern Harmony And Musical Companion. Released on May 12, 1992, it entered the US Billboard album chart at N. The record debuted at N. and went on to sell millions of copies, and was our real success in Europe. And I think with people who are into The Black Crowes, it’s our finest record, our classic album, says Chris.
It features four hit singles; "Remedy" ( on the Album Rock Tracks chart for 11 weeks), "Thorn in My Pride" ( on the Album Rock Tracks chart for four weeks), "Sting Me" ( on the Album Rock Tracks chart for two weeks), and "Hotel Illness" ( on the Album Rock Tracks chart for six weeks). It was a record for an album to feature four album roc. iscover more music, concerts, videos, and pictures with the largest catalogue online at Last.
