Alan Richard James Skidmore (born 21 April 1942 in London) is a jazz tenor saxophonist and the son of saxophonist Jimmy Skidmore. His first solo album was 1969's Once Upon a Time and on this and his other albums a strong John Coltrane influence can be heard, especially on his 1988 album Tribute to 'trane, and 1998's After the Rain, orchestral settings of tunes that had been recorded (and some of them written) by Coltrane. In 1973 he co-founded the all-saxophone ensemble . with John Surman and Mike Osborne
