The following is a listing of the jazz pianist Bill Evans' original albums. He recorded over 50 albums as a leader between 1956 and 1980 and also played as a sideman on nearly as many more. He broke new ground in many of his piano trio, duet and solo recordings. Several of those won or were nominated for Grammy Awards. Jerry Wald and his Orchestra (1953). Listen to the Music of Jerry Wald (1955). The Singing Reed (1955). A Message from Garcia (1955).

Second, Evans invites some disruption of continuity and let-up of dramatic urgency whenever he defers to solos by Johnson or LaBarbera. But these moments, too, are understandable respites that allow the pianist to gather his strength for yet another glorious burst of lyric energy. Consecration captures all of the first sets of the stand that would prove to be Bill Evans' valedictory, whereas Last Waltz is composed of the second sets.

If one assembles these two collections with the Warner Bros. The excellent and technically revelatory liner notes to this collection by Bob Doerschuk go a long way toward explaining exactly what it was that Evans was up to on that stand with his piano and his band.

The Bill Evans Trio is accompanied by a symphony orchestra conducted and arranged by Claus Ogerman. one of Bill Evans' least significant recordings, a weak third stream effort. Evans was very proud of this album. Ogermann's charts are sweetly romantic rather than overbearing, and this gives Evans and his trio (with bassist Chuck Israels and drummer Grady Tate) room to maneuver.
