Diamond Dogs is the eighth studio album by the English musician David Bowie, released on 24 May 1974 by RCA Records. Thematically, it was a marriage of the novel Nineteen Eighty-Four by George Orwell and Bowie's own glam-tinged vision of a post-apocalyptic world. Bowie had wanted to make a theatrical production of Orwell's book and began writing material after completing sessions for his 1973 album Pin Ups, but the author's estate denied the rights.
Diamond Dogs" is a 1974 single by David Bowie, the title track of the album of the same name. The lyric introduces the listener to Bowie’s latest persona and his environment; Halloween Jack dwells on top of an abandoned skyscraper ("Manhattan Chase", . One Chase Manhattan Plaza) in a post-apocalyptic Manhattan. The guitar sound is heavily influenced by The Rolling Stones, and signalled Bowie moving away from glam rock and closer to a proto-punk Stooges-influenced sound.
The Diamond Dogs was a Swedish rock band founded in Katrineholm during the early 1990s, by vocalist Sören 'Sulo' Karlsson and guitarist Anders 'Boba' Lindström. The line-up has changed several times throughout the band's career and has included members from bands such as The Hellacopters, Stefan Sundströms back-up band, Wilmer X, Patti Palladin, Dogs D'Amour, Nymphet Noodlers, Hederos & Hellberg and The Soundtrack Of Our Lives however the band's music has always been rooted in 1970's rock.
This ain't rock 'n' roll! This is genocide! As they pulled you out of the oxygen tent You asked for the latest party With your silicone hump and your ten inch stump Dressed like a priest you was Tod Browning's Freak you was Crawling down the alley on your hands and knee I'm sure you're not protected, for it's plain to see The Diamond Dogs. Well, she's come, been and gone Come out of the garden, baby You'll catch your death in the fog Young girl, they call them the Diamond Dogs Young girl, they call them the Diamond Dogs. The Halloween Jack is a real cool cat And he lives on top of Manhattan Chase The elevator's broke, so he slides down a rope Onto the street below, oh Tarzan, go man go Meet his little hussy with his ghost town approach Her face is sans feature, but she wears a Dali brooch Sweetly reminiscent, something mother used to.
Diamond Dogs suffers precisely because of this - he doesn't know how to move forward. Originally conceived as a concept album based on George Orwell's 1984, Diamond Dogs evolved into another one of Bowie's paranoid future nightmares. Throughout the album, there are hints that he's tired of the Ziggy formula, particularly in the disco underpinning of "Candidate" and his cut-and-paste lyrics. However, it's not enough to make Diamond Dogs a step forward, and without Mick Ronson to lead the band, the rockers are too stiff to make an impact
The Diamond Dogs are a group of dog creatures who first appear as the antagonists of the episode A Dog and Pony Show, led by the three dogs Rover, Fido, and Spot. After they see Rarity using her gem-finding spell, they kidnap her and force her to find gems for them. They are not particularly smart, allowing Rarity to trick them with ease. Their human counterparts appear in the Rainbow Rocks animated short Player Piano and make cameo appearances in My Little Pony Equestria Girls: Rainbow Rocks and My Little Pony Equestria Girls: Friendship Games.
