After the Storm is the fourth studio album by American recording artist Monica. It was first released on June 17, 2003 through J Records. Created over a period of three years, in which Monica experienced personal struggles and its original version, All Eyez on Me, was delayed numerous times following the moderate success of single "All Eyez on Me" as well as the leak to Internet file-sharing services and heavy bootlegging after its Japan-wide release, Monica decided to scrap most of the album in favor. Following the release of her second album The Boy Is Mine (1998) and her contribution to "I've Got to Have It", a collaboration with Jermaine Dupri and rapper Nas, recorded for the soundtrack of the 2000 comedy film Big Momma's House, Monica took a hiatus from her recording career.

After a label switch to J Records, Monica released After the Storm in 2003, a retooled version of her third album, All Eyez on Me (2002), which had received a Japan-wide release only after its first single's commercial failure and an early leak via the internet. The album became the singer's first album to debut at. number-one on the Billboard 200 chart and eventually sold more than a million copies stateside, with its single "So Gone" becoming Monica's biggest-selling singles in years.

New Monica!" shouts Missy Elliott on the single "So Gone," one of five cuts she co-wrote and produced for After the Storm, the singers first domestic album since 1998. Miss E, of course, brings much spark and grit, but even some of the non-Elliott cuts are virtual arias of romance and self-fulfillment, with Monica Arnold pledging her devotion on one track, demanding her key back on another.
